Calgary is a city in Alberta that is known for its energy epicenter and environment friendly atmosphere.
Apart from being considered as the top spot for oil and gas companies in Canada, Calgary has made its way to balance business and nature.
During my visit in the said city, I was happy that I found here a lot of cool places to enjoy, explore and meditate on.
Without further ado, let me take you to a quick tour in Calgary.
1. Experience the amazing Peace Bridge
Peace Bridge is one of the most iconic structures in Alberta built for the purpose of connecting the Bow Valley community and downtown Calgary.
The bridge serves a great purpose for workers and travelers, as it lessens the traffic congestion and long travel time going to the office for people living from Bow Valley and working to downtown.
When I visited the bridge, I am so astonished that it is not only a connecting pathway but also it gives peace to people walking on it because of its beauty and surrounding areas.
2. Take a walk at the Prince Island Park
If you are the type of person who enjoy doing some picnics, jogging, meditation and walking with dogs, the Prince Island Park is the place for you.
Twenty to thirty minutes away from the Peace Bridge, you will reach this awesome park and experience the natural beauty of Calgary.
If for instance I am working in Calgary, I will definitely visit this place after work. Since, I feel like the park would help me to tone down stress and fatigue.
3. Visit the Calgary Zoo
Can you imagine that within the city there is a place designed and built for animals?
One unique thing about Calgary is that you could gaze at and be with different wild creatures after exploring the city centre.
It would only take you around between 20 to 30 minutes from downtown to see the Calgary Zoo.
4. Explore the Sunridge and other huge malls
What is nice here in Calgary is the variety of malls and stores you can visit. Either you shop or dine, there is a good spot waiting to be explored.
During my stay, I visited the Sunridge Mall and I am so amused how enormous it was. I also enjoyed their Seafood City Centre as it is a home for Filipino food which I am so genuinely jubilant.
5. Eat in a Local Restaurant
Tony Romas is one of the famous restaurants for grilled pork and steak here in Calgary that I will definitely recommend.
Aside from their delicious and tender juicy meat selections, they do have happy hour from Mondays to Sundays, their special cocktail like the Shirley’s Temple would cost you around $5 plus tax.
Alongside of 22nd and 23rd street in North East Calgary, you could also try other restaurants like Montana, Joey Barlow, Earls Kitchen and Bar and Cattle Bar Steakhouse.
6. Be amazed at the Hangar Museum
Near at the Sunridge Boulevard, this unique museum of airplane was established in 1941 that stored a diversified civilian and military aircrafts covering century of Canadian Flights.
The entrance fee going to this place is ranging from $10 to $15 and they are open from Tuesdays to Sundays.
This will be an exciting destination for people who would want to become a pilot for a day, aircraft technician and aero parts designer.
7. Appreciate Art at Glenbow Museum
Glenbow Museum is a home for Western Canadian history and culture.
This place is filled with diversified collections of Eric Harvie from the artworks of some iconic artists in West Africa, Latin America, Oceana and Asia.
I would love to see this museum when I return to Calgary.
8. Take a Selfie at the Wonderland Sculpture
Still at the city centre, there is this master piece called the Wonderland Sculpture that its beauty would show up obviously during the night.
My advice is really not to leave Calgary before taking a selfie to this giant artwork.
9. Walk and Enjoy the Downtown
This is one of my favorite thing to do in Calgary because aside from the fact that it is free, I am thrilled to see the peculiar buildings, satisfy myself in riding a train which just cost me for around $2.75 and within the center there is also park that I could stop by and relax.
10. Have Fun at the Heritage Park Historical Village
Situated in the Southwest of Calgary and 15 minutes away from the Downtown, you will enjoy not only the hundreds of exhibits at the Heritage Park Village but also some unique local shops, amazing shops and entertainment and playground for kids and young-at-heart.
The entrance fee of the village will only cost you around $10.
